About Our Cemetery:
Forest Lawn Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia was established in 1922 on land previously known as the Myrtle Grove Plantation, an estate once owned by John Carter. He and his family members have grave markers still intact on the grounds. Other notable gravesites include sculptor Frederick William Sievers (1872-1966), UMC bishop Carl Julian Sanders (1912-2007), and civil rights attorney Oliver White Hill Sr. (1907-2007).
Forest Lawn also features the Emek Sholom Holocaust Memorial, one of the first memorials erected in the United States to victims of the Holocaust (1955).
